Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Kia Sorento is a midsize crossover utility vehicle,with a traditional 4-door design and a rear liftgate. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels are standard.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Kia Sorento,offered in four different trim levels,seats up to 7 passengers when equipped with the optional third-row seating. Base Sorento models feature air conditioning,full power accessories,cruise control,Bluetooth phone connectivity,iPod adapter,and AUX input jack. Higher trim levels feature leather upholstery,body-colored exterior mirrors,heated front seats,rearview camera,keyless entry/ignition,and other premium features.
Optional FeaturesMajor option packages on the 2012 Kia Sorento include a satellite-based navigation system,premium Infinity audio system,and a panoramic moonroof.
Under the HoodKia Sorento models are fitted with one of two different engines. The standard power plant is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder rated at 175 horsepower. While higher trim levels are fitted with the same 2.4-liter 4-cylinder,the engine is equipped with direct injection and rated at 191 horsepower. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on lower trim levels,with a 6-speed automatic optional,which is standard on higher trims levels. Front-wheel drive is standard,with all-wheel drive optional.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Kia Sorento are:
- Kia Sorento with 2.4-liter engine and automatic transmission: 22/32 mpg (city/highway)
- Kia Sorento with 2.4-liter engine and manual transmission: 20/27 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Kia Sorento include side curtain air bags,active head restraints,hill start control,and hill descent control. In government crash tests,the 2012 Kia Sorento received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars,according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS),the Sorento received a “Good” rating—the Institute’s highest—for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection. Roof strength results from the Institute were also ""Good.""
