2012 Ford Edge SUV

Exterior Features
The 2012 Ford Edge is a compact crossover,and is offered in a 4-door body style with four trim levels. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels are standard,with larger wheels available on other trim levels.

Interior Features
The 2012 Ford Edge offers seating for up to 5 passengers. Base Edge SE models feature cloth upholstery,air conditioning,full power accessories,cruise control,tilt-and-telescope steering wheel,and more. Upgraded trim levels are fitted with dual-zone automatic climate control,keyless entry code pad,Bluetooth hands-free connectivity,upgraded audio system,and other amenities. The Ford Edge Limited model targets consumers interested in luxury,while the Edge Sport model targets enthusiasts with its performance-tuned enhancements.

Optional Features
Major option packages on the 2012 Ford Edge include leather upholstery,heated front seats,satellite radio,automatic windshield wipers,blind-spot warning,and more.

Under the Hood
Ford Edge models are fitted with three different engines. The standard model features a 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated at 285 horsepower,with an optional 2.0-liter 4-cylinder (new in 2012) rated at 240 horsepower. The Edge Sport features a 3.7-liter V-6 engine rated at 305 horsepower. All engines are mated to a standard 6-speed automatic transmission. Although front-wheel drive is standard,all-wheel drive is optional on some 2012 Ford Edge models.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Ford Edge are:
  • Ford Edge AWD with 3.5-liter V-6 engine: 18/25 mpg (city/highway)
  • Ford Edge FWD with 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine: 21/30 mpg (city/highway)
  • Ford Edge AWD with 3.7-liter V-6 engine: 17/23 mpg (city/highway)

Safety
Standard safety features of note on the 2012 Ford Edge include side-impact curtain air bags and blind-spot mirrors. In government crash tests,the 2012 Ford Edge received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars,according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS),the Edge received a “Good” rating—the Institute’s highest—for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection. Roof strength results from the Institute were also ""Good.""
