What’s New for 2012: Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Cruze is a compact sedan,and is offered in five different trim levels. All Cruze models share the same 4-door sedan body style. Sixteen-inch steel wheels are standard. The Cruze Eco is a special model designed to maximize fuel economy.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Cruze offers seating for up to 5 passengers. Base Cruzes feature cloth upholstery,air conditioning,full power accessories,and a 60/40 split rear seat. Upgraded trim levels are fitted with such features as a leather-wrapped steering wheel,remote vehicle start,and automatic climate control.
Optional FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Cruze offers option packages that add many of the features found on upper trim levels to lower trims. Features include navigation,Pioneer premium audio system,sunroof,18-inch alloy wheels,and an RS appearance package.
Under the HoodChevrolet Cruze models are fitted with two different engines. Base Cruzes feature a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 136 horsepower. The optional engine is a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder rated at 138 horsepower. The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual,offered in all but the range-topping LTZ trim. A 6-speed automatic transmission is optional. All 2012 Chevrolet Cruze models are front-wheel drive.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze are:
- Chevrolet Cruze with 1.8-liter engine and manual transmission: 25/36 mpg (city/highway)
- Chevrolet Cruze Eco with 1.4-liter engine and manual transmission: 28/42 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze include side curtain air bags and knee air bags. In government crash tests,the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze received an overall rating of 5 (out of 5) stars,according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS),the Cruze sedan received a “Good” rating—the Institute’s highest—for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection. Roof strength results from the Institute were also ""Good.""
