2011 Toyota Highlander SUV

The Toyota Highlander is a midsize sport utility vehicle that was first introduced for the 2001 model year. Unlike the truck-based 4Runner,which is designed for rugged off-road use,the unibody seven-passenger Highlander offers a softer,car-like ride. Now in its second-generation and last redesigned for the 2008 model year, the Highlander receives a facelift, several new features, and a new Sport trim level for 2011

The Highlander is offered in five trim levels: Highlander,SE,Limited,Hybrid, and Hybrid Limited. Base models arrive with standard cloth upholstery, air conditioning, rear privacy glass,split-folding seats in the second and third row,17-inch alloy wheels, and more. The SE model adds leather upholstery, power driver seat, power tailgate,dual-zone climate control,auto-dimming rearview mirror,back-up camera, and other standard features. The range-topping Limited model is equipped with upgraded leather upholstery,tri-zone climate control, keyless entry/ignition,power driver and passenger seat, and other luxury appointments. Major options include a towing package, upgraded JBL audio system, navigation system, and DVD-based entertainment package for the rear seats

The Highlander is offered with three engine choices. The standard power plant is a 2.7-liter,four-cylinder engine rated at 187 horsepower. It is mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission. A larger 3.5-liter,six-cylinder engine rated at 270 horsepower is optional. The V6 is offered only with a five-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional on six-cylinder models. The Hybrid features a 3.5-liter,six-cylinder engine that is combined with a pair of electric motors for total system output of 280 horsepower. On the Hybrid model,a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT) is standard,as is an all-wheel drive. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Toyota Highlander between 17 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, depending on powertrain combination

The 2011 Toyota Highlander starts with a base price of about $28,500 and tops out with the Hybrid Limited, which starts around $44,000
