The Nissan Pathfinder is a midsize sport utility vehicle that was first introduced in 1986. Like the Toyota 4Runner,the first-generation five-passenger Pathfinder was based on a pickup truck with a body-on-frame chassis. Today's seven-passenger Pathfinder is in its third generation. While still built on the same truck frame,it is much larger and more powerful than its predecessors. All Pathfinder models are designed for rugged off-road use,with four-wheel drive optional. Nissan has made few changes to the model for 2011,but has added an anniversary model and simplified the options list.
The Pathfinder is offered in five configurations: S,SV,Silver Edition,LE V6,and LE V8. The standard model arrives with air conditioning,power accessories,cruise control,tow hitch,roof rails,fold-flat second and third row seating,AM/FM/CD audio package,16-inch aluminum alloy wheels,and more. The SV adds running boards,fog lamps,dual zone climate control,power driver seat,upgraded audio,and 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels.
Celebrating the model?s 25th anniversary,the Silver Edition features Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity,Bose audio system,heated front seats,and keyless entry/remote start,as well as other cosmetic and convenience upgrades. The LE models,in both six- and eight-cylinder trim,have larger 18-inch wheels,driver's seat memory system,and upgraded infotainment and navigation systems.The Nissan Pathfinder is offered with two engine choices. The standard power plant is a 4.0-liter,six-cylinder engine rated at 266 horsepower. It is offered on all models,except the LE V8. The optional engine is a 5.6-liter,eight-cylinder,rated at 310 horsepower. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard. The S,SV,and Silver Edition are available with 4x2 or 4x4 powertrains. The LE V6 offers 4x2 or Nissan's All-Mode 4WD,while All-Mode 4WD is standard on the LE V8. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder between 13 mpg city and 22 mpg highway,depending on powertrain.
