2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sedan
The Mitsubishi Lancer is a compact sedan that was first launched in 1973. Sold in the States under the Dodge Colt,Eagle Summit,and Mitsubishi Mirage nameplates,the current Lancer is in its ninth generation and was last completely redesigned for the 2007 model year. For 2011,Mitsubishi has made several improvements,including replacing the rear drum brakes with disc brakes on base models,adding electric-assist power steering,and reconfiguring the options.
The Lancer is sold in five configurations: DE,ES,GTS,Ralliart,and Evolution. The entry-level DE models have power accessories,but lack the air conditioning and keyless entry found on the ES trim level. The GTS is fitted with a larger engine,18-inch alloy wheels,sport suspension and more. The Ralliart is configured in the same manner,but with a more powerful engine and all-wheel drive. The Evolution is the flagship performance variant.The Mitsubishi Lancer is offered with four engine choices. The standard powerplant is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is rated at 148 horsepower. A more powerful engine,standard on Lancer GTS models,is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that generates 168 horsepower. A five-speed manual is standard,with a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT) optional. The DE,ES,and GTS models are front-wheel drive.
The Lancer Ralliart is fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 237 horsepower. A sequential gearbox,and all-wheel drive,is standard. The Lancer Evolution is fitted with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 291 horsepower,and is offered with a five-speed manual or a six-speed sequential automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive and a performance-tuned suspension are standard on the Evolution. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer between 17 mpg city and 33 mpg highway,depending on powertrain.
