2011 Mazda RX-8 Coupe

The only car available for 2011 with a rotary engine, the Mazda RX-8 is a 4-door,4-seat,rear-wheel-drive sports car (the rear doors are rear-hinged for easier access to the back seats). It features exterior and interior styling that are readily identifiable with the Mazda brand. The 2011 model carries over from the previous year. Mazda has announced that the 2011 model will be the last for the RX-8.

Three trim levels are available on the 2011 Mazda RX-8: Sport,Grand Touring, and R3. The Sport trim features 18-inch wheels,leather-wrapped steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, power accessories, and a 6-speaker sound system. A rear lip spoiler and a limited-slip differential are included if the manual transmission is chosen. The Grand Touring trim adds leather upholstery, automatic Xenon headlights, fog lights, sunroof, heated power front seats, automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition,Bluetooth connectivity, and a 9-speaker sound system. The limited-slip differential is standard. A touch-screen navigation system is optional on the Grand Touring trim. The RX-8 R3 is the performance-oriented version: It employs the Sport trim plus 19-inch wheels,Xenon headlights, premium audio system, keyless entry and ignition, and it adds a firmer suspension, sporty front seats, and a rear spoiler. An automatic transmission is not available on the RX-8 R3.

The standard power plant in the 2011 Mazda RX-8 is a 1.3-liter rotary engine that produces 152 lb.-ft. of torque and 232 horsepower when coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission. With the optional 6-speed automatic transmission (which features manual paddle shifters),power drops to 212 horsepower. With manual transmission, the engine delivers 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Mazda RX-8 include anti-lock disc brakes, front side air bags, and full-length side curtain air bags. Stability control is added to the Grand Touring and R3 trims.

Starting MSRP for the 2011 Mazda RX-8 was $26,795.
