The Mazda 6 is a front-wheel-drive midsize family sedan with some sporty features. The changes to the 2011 model are mainly cosmetic,and the menus of features at various trim levels have been tweaked.
The 2011 Mazda 6 is available in seven trims. Those with the ?i? prefix employ a 4-cylinder engine; those with the ?s? prefix feature a V-6 engine. The entry-level trim,Mazda 6 i Sport,features 16-inch steel wheels,air conditioning,and a 6-speaker sound system. Features are added gradually to the higher trims. The s Grand Touring trim is the top of the line,and includes 18-inch cast aluminum wheels,leather upholstery,heated front seats,automatic dual-zone climate control,10-speaker Bose sound system,sunroof,Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity,and a trip computer. Available with the Grand Touring trim is the Technology package,which includes keyless entry and ignition,satellite radio,and automatic Xenon headlights. A voice-activated navigation system is also available with the Grand Touring trim.
The ?i? models of the 2011 Mazda 6 feature a 170-horsepower,2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard at the base level,and a 5-speed automatic with manual shift control is optional,on the Sport trim. The automatic transmission is standard on the Touring,Touring Plus,and Grand Touring versions. The ?s? models of the Mazda 6 feature a 272-horsepower,3.7-liter V-6 engine,with which a 6-speed automatic transmission is standard. The 4-cylinder engine with automatic transmission delivers 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway; the V-6 engine delivers 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway,according to the EPA.
Standard safety equipment on the 2011 Mazda 6 includes anti-lock disc brakes,electronic stability and traction control,front side air bags,and side curtain air bags. A rearview camera is added to the upper trims. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Mazda 6 highest-possible ?Good? ratings in frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests.
