The Mazda3 is a compact car that was introduced in 2004 as a replacement to the Mazda Prot?g?. The current Mazda3 is in its second generation,last completely redesigned for the 2009 model year. The 2011 model is mostly unchanged,but the automaker has changed some of the standard equipment and features,including adding stability control as standard across the lineup.

The Mazda3 is offered in four- and five-door sedan body styles. The five-door is offered in Sport,Grand Touring,and Mazdaspeed3 trim levels,while the four-door sedan is available in i SV,i Sport,i Touring,s Sport,and s Grand Touring trims. Standard equipment on entry-level models includes cloth-trimmed seats,power windows,power locks,a 4-speaker audio package,16-inch steel wheels,and more. Upgraded models receive standard air conditioning,cruise control,remote keyless entry,6-speaker audio,16-inch alloy wheels,and more.

Sport models feature equipment such as a more powerful engine,while the range-topping s Grand Touring models include leather upholstery,dual-zone climate control,heated outside mirrors,265-watt 10-speaker audio system,and more. The five-door equipment levels mostly mirror those found on the four-door. The sport-tuned Mazdaspeed3 models are configured for the enthusiast. Equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels,upgraded suspension,and the most powerful engine in the lineup.

Under the hood of the standard ""i"" models is a 2.0-liter,four-cylinder engine rated at 148 horsepower. The ""s"" models are powered by a 2.5-liter,four-cylinder engine rated at 167 horsepower. The range-topping Mazdaspeed3 features turbocharged 2.3-liter,four-cylinder engine rated at 263 horsepower ? a six-speed manual transmission is standard. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Mazda Mazda3 between 18 mpg city,and 33 mpg highway,depending on driveline.

The 2011 Mazda3 4-door starts with a base price of about $16,000 and tops out with the Mazdaspeed3 model,which starts around $24,000.
