The Kia Sorento is a mid-size,five- or seven-passenger crossover sport utility vehicle. Introduced in 2002 on a truck platform,the Sorento has been completely redesigned for 2011 on a car-like unibody chassis. Interestingly,the 2011 model was launched so early in 2010 that the automaker didn?t introduce a 2010 model
The Sorento is offered in three trim levels: LX,EX,and SX. All models?except the SX?are offered with a choice between four- or six-cylinder engines. The six-cylinder is standard on the SX. Standard LX models are equipped with cloth upholstery,air conditioning,full power accessories,Bluetooth connectivity,USB audio connection,17-inch alloy wheels,and more. Bumping up to the EX adds dual-zone climate control,keyless entry,leather wrapped steering wheel,18-inch alloy wheels,and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The range-topping SX,designed to be the sporty model,is configured with leather upholstery,sport-tuned suspension,heated front seats,ten-speaker audio upgrade,and more. Option packages include a navigation system and a panoramic moon roof
The Sorento is offered with two engine choices. The standard power plant is a 2.4-liter,four-cylinder engine rated at 175 horsepower. That engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission,with a six-speed automatic optional. The other choice is a 3.5-liter,six-cylinder engine rated at 276 horsepower. The six-speed automatic is standard with the larger power plant. Front-wheel drive is standard,with an all-wheel drive system (designed for on-road use during inclement weather) available as an option on the LX and EX models. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Kia Sorento between 18 mpg city and 29 mpg highway,depending on engine and powertrain choices
