The Outlander is Mitsubishi?s compact crossover SUV,available with front- or all-wheel drive. The Outlander underwent an extensive redesign for 2010,which includes cosmetic changes to the interior and exterior,the addition of a new premium trim level,and more powerful engines.
The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander comes in four trim levels: ES,SE,XLS,and GT. The ES features 16-inch steel wheels,air conditioning,cruise control,and a 6-speaker sound system. The SE model features 18-inch wheels,fabric sport seats,keyless entry and ignition,and other trim enhancements. The XLS steps up to a V-6 engine and adds automatic climate control,a third-row seat,and Bluetooth connectivity. The GT trim adds Xenon headlights,upgraded trim and pedals,and a Rockford Fosgate sound system. Various option packages are available at different trim levels,and can include a sunroof,hard-drive-based navigation system,leather upholstery,power driver?s seat,and a rear-seat entertainment system.
The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander ES and SE trims feature a 168-horsepower,2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine,coupled with a continuously variable transmission that delivers 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive,according to the EPA. Outlander XLS and GT models feature a 230-horsepower,3.0-liter V-6 engine that employs a 6-speed automatic transmission and delivers 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. All the Outlander?s transmissions feature manual shifters. The all-wheel-drive system offers three driving modes.
Standard safety features on the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander include anti-lock brakes,stability control,active front head restraints,front- and side-impact air bags,side curtain air bags,seat belt pre-tensioners,an ignition disabling device,and an intrusion detection system. In government crash tests,the NHTSA gave the Lancer 5 out of 5 stars for driver and front-passenger protection in front impacts. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded its highest-possible ?Good? ratings in frontal-offset and side-impact tests,and ?Acceptable? for rear-impact protection.
