A compact,budget-priced,front-wheel-drive model that?s available as a sedan or a hatchback,the Mazda 3 entered its second generation with the 2010 model year. The Mazda 3?s platform carries over from the first generation,but the new model is slightly larger. Two Mazda 3 models are available for 2010?the 3i and the 3s?and a new 2.5-liter engine has been introduced.
The 2010 Mazda 3i is available as a sedan,in three trims?SV,Sport and Touring?while the Mazda 3s is offered as either a sedan or a hatchback,in Sport or Touring trim. The entry-level Mazda 3i SV features 16-inch wheels,power windows and mirrors,and a 4-speaker sound system. The 3i Sport trim adds air conditioning and an optional automatic transmission. The 3i Touring trim upgrades the wheels and sound system and adds power locks,remote keyless entry,cruise control,and Bluetooth connectivity. The Mazda 3s features 17-inch wheels,dual exhaust,trip computer,rear spoiler,and other upgrades. The 3s Grand Touring trim adds dual-zone climate control,leather upholstery,heated front seats,and automatic bi-Xenon headlights. A 10-speaker Bose surround sound system is optional,coupled with a sunroof. A Technology package adds a navigation system,satellite radio,keyless ignition,and keyless entry.
Standard on the 2010 Mazda 3i is a 148-horsepower,2.0-liter,inline 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual transmission,with a 5-speed automatic optional on the Sport and Touring trims. According to the EPA,the 2010 Mazda 3i with manual transmission delivers 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. All Mazda 3s models employ a 167-horsepower,2.5-liter,inline 4-cylinder engine,with a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed automatic. With automatic transmission,the 2010 Mazda 3s delivers 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist,active front head restraints,front side air bags,and side curtain air bags are standard safety equipment on all 2010 Mazda 3 models.
