Mazda?s midsize crossover SUV,the 5-seat CX-7,has received a styling refresh for 2010,inside and out. Highlights include a new turbocharged engine and a more prominent grille. The Mazda CX-7 competes with SUVs such as the Chevrolet Equinox,Mistubishi Outlander,and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
The CX-7?s base trim level,i SV,features 17-inch wheels,power windows and locks,cruise control,air conditioning,and a 4-speaker sound system. The CX-7 i Sport trim adds Bluetooth connectivity and some cosmetic upgrades. The CX-7 s Touring trim features 18-inch alloy wheels,new turbocharged engine with dual exhaust outlets,leather upholstery,upgraded front seats,and a rear cargo cover. The CX-7 s Grand Touring trim features 19-inch alloy wheels,sunroof,automatic Xenon headlights,automatic climate control,keyless ignition,keyless entry,upgraded leather upholstery,upgraded Bose sound system,and other enhancements. The CX-7 i SV and CX-7 i Sport are available in front-wheel drive; the Touring and Grand Touring models offer optional all-wheel drive. All 2010 Mazda CX-7s provide 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats,and 59 cubic feet with those seats folded down,Mazda says.
The two lower trim levels of the 2010 Mazda CX-7 feature a 161-horsepower,2.5-liter,inline 4-cylinder engine coupled with a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. That engine delivers 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive,according to the EPA. The Touring and Grand Touring trims employ a turbocharged,244-horsepower,2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. It delivers 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive.
Standard safety features on the 2010 Mazda CX-7 include anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution,stability control,traction control,rearview camera,front side air bags,and side curtain air bags. In government crash tests,the NHTSA gave the 2010 Mazda CX-7 five stars (out of five) in both front- and side-impact tests for both driver and passengers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded ?Good? ratings to the CX-7 in its frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests,and an ?Acceptable? rating for rear?impact protection.
Starting MSRP for the 2010 Mazda CX-7 was $21,700.
