The 2010 Mini Cooper is mainly a carryover from the previous model year,but two special option packages have been added. The Cooper is a basic small car,available as a 2-door hatchback or convertible,but it can be turned into a more upscale,higher-performance vehicle via a long list of optional upgrades.
Both the hatchback and the convertible body styles are available in the 2010 Mini Cooper,Cooper S,and John Cooper Works trim levels. Standard equipment includes 15-inch wheels,vinyl upholstery,6-speaker sound system,cruise control,air conditioning,and keyless entry. The convertible version has a power-operated soft top with integrated sunroof,and 16-inch wheels. The Cooper S features 16-inch wheels on the hatchback,17-inch wheels on the convertible,a more powerful engine,sport seats,fog lamps,and a sportier suspension. The John Cooper Works trim adds Brembo brakes and cloth upholstery,and adds yet more power to the engine. Options include a premium Harman Kardon sound system,Bluetooth connectivity,automatic climate control,a dual-pane sunroof on the hatchback models,leather upholstery,a navigation system,and much more. The Camden and Mayfair option packages broaden the selection of colors.
The 2010 Mini Cooper?s standard power plant is a 118-horsepower,1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on all trims. According to the EPA,a base-level Cooper delivers 28 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. The Cooper S features a turbocharged,1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 172 horsepower. The John Cooper Works is available only with the manual transmission,and steps up to an even more powerfully charged version of that same engine: 208 horsepower and 192 lb.-ft. of torque.
Standard safety features on the 2010 Mini Cooper include anti-lock disc brakes,stability control,and front side air bags. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the hatchback version of the Cooper its highest-possible ?Good? rating for frontal offset,and ?Acceptable? for side-impact crash protection.
