The Hyundai Accent took its initial bow in the U.S. in the 2007 model year. Available as a three-door hatchback or as a sedan,in its new Accent Blue trim,the Accent is one of the least expensive cars available for 2010. Its low curb weight,Hyundai says,makes the Accent more responsive than its 110-hp engine would suggest.
The base-level Blue trim is a base vehicle. It has two side doors and a hatchback,14-inch wheels,adjustable driver?s seat,and optional air conditioning. The GS trim adds air conditioning as a standard feature,along with a six-speaker sound system with CD/MP3 player,satellite radio,and optional auxiliary/USB jacks,and various upgrades to the interior and exterior. The SE trim includes to 16-inch wheels,and adds a sunroof,firmer suspension,and other enhancements. The Accent sedan is offered only in GLS trim,which is similar to the GS.
The 1.6-liter,four-cylinder engine delivers 106 lb.-ft. of torque. It?s coupled to a five-speed manual transmission,with an optional four-speed automatic available on all trims except the Blue trim level. All Accents are front-wheel-drive. According to the EPA,the Blue trim delivers 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway,as do all other trims with the automatic transmission. The upper level trims with manual transmission deliver 28 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway,according to the EPA.
The NHTSA gave the 2010 Hyundai Accent five stars for front occupant protection in front-impact tests,and four stars for side-impact tests. The Accent received three stars for rear-passenger protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Accent an ?Acceptable? rating for frontal-offset and ?Poor? for side impact.
The 2010 Accent Blue trim carried an MSRP of $9,970.
