A crossover vehicle that features a boxy design,the Honda Element is known for its roominess. Honda says that the height of the Element and its center-opening,wide-swinging doors make it easy to get into and out of. For 2010,the Honda Element receives some new interior styling,a lower stance,and larger wheels. A unique optional is a Dog Friendly package that includes an enclosed kennel,complete with cushioned bed,water bowl,and collapsible access ramp.
The 2010 Honda Element is available in three trims: base LX,EX,and SC. The LX and EX trims have 16-inch wheels. On the LX,power windows and locks are standard,as are air conditioning,folding and removable rear seats,a basic sound system,cruise control,and keyless entry. The EX adds two storage consoles and an upgraded sound system. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard on the SC trim,which also has more elaborate and upscale exterior and interior styling. On the upper trim levels,a voice-activated navigation system and a rear-view camera are available.
The Element?s standard powertrain is comprised of a 166-hp,2.4-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard,while LX and EX models offer optional all-wheel drive. EPA estimates range from 18 to 20 mpg in the city to 23 to 25 mpg on the highway.
Safety features include antilock disc brakes,stability control,front side airbags,and side curtain airbags. The 2010 Element received five stars for frontal and side impact protection in NHTSA tests. It received ?Good? ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for frontal offset and side impact tests.
The 2010 MSRP for the Honda Element started at $20,525.
