The Camaro is one of the iconic models in American automotive history. It made its debut in the 1967 model year as a ?pony car??a small, economical car with a sporty look and performance features?and was viewed as a competitor to the Ford Mustang. The 2010 is the first model of the Camaro?s fifth generation. Its body styling, although contemporary,is inspired by the 1969 model.
The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is a coup? that?s available in five trim levels. The base LS,1LT,and 2LT trims have a V6 engine, while the 1SS and 2SS trim levels have V8 power. Standard equipment on the base model includes 18-in. wheels, front bucket seats, cloth upholstery, air conditioning, cruise control, and keyless entry, plus a basic audio system. The 1LT and 2LT trims add several power features. The 2LT also includes 19-inch wheels, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The 1SS is similar to the 1LT in terms of luxury features, but adds 20-in. wheels and Brembo brakes. The 2SS is equivalent to the 2LT,but with the upgraded wheels and brakes. Two options packages are available: one adding interior features, and the other adds exterior features. All Camaros can be optioned with 21-in. wheels.
The 304-hp,3.6-liter V6 engine is available with a manual transmission,or with an automatic with manual shift control. The 6.2-liter V8 engine makes 426 hp on the SS trim with manual transmission, and 400 hp with the automatic transmission. The V8 with automatic transmission features Chevrolet?s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation, which the automaker says will help conserve fuel. The EPA estimates that the V6 with manual transmission will deliver 17 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The V8 gets 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg highway.
The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro starts at about $22,680.
