New for the 2009 model year,the Audi Q5 is a compact five-door crossover that employs Audi?s MLP (Modular Longitudinal Platform),which debuted two years earlier in the Audi A5 coup?. The Q5 is a lighter,more compact version of the Audi Q7,with a long list of luxury features. The Q5 is slightly wider than the Q7 and offers more legroom. Folding rear seats add cargo space,and towing capacity is 4,400 lbs.

The Audi Q5 offers three equipment packages. The Premium (base) package includes 18-inch wheels,eight-way power seats,three-zone climate control,trip computer,10-speaker stereo system with optional Bluetooth and iPod interface,heated side mirrors,eight-way power front seats (heating is optional),and tilt/telescoping steering wheel. The sunroof is optional. The Premium Plus includes those features as well as a standard sunroof and heated front seats,xenon headlights,LED daytime running lights,and optional 19-inch wheels.

The Prestige package features the larger wheels as standard equipment,and adds a navigation package,keyless ignition/entry,and a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system. Twenty-inch wheels are optional with the Prestige package and standard with the S line package,which also includes revised front and rear fascia treatments,upgraded trim,a sportier steering wheel with shift paddles,and summer tires.

Standard on all Q5s is Audi?s Quattro all-wheel drive system and a six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.2-liter V6 engine produces 270 hp and 243 lb.-ft. of torque. EPA estimates are 18 mpg city,23 mpg highway,and 20 mpg combined. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the Q5 ?Good? on front and side crash tests,while the Q5 received five stars in all categories in U.S. government crash tests. Safety features include stability and traction control,front and side airbags,and side curtain airbags.

When introduced,the 2009 Audi Q5 started at $37,200.
