Before the introduction of the XC90,Volvo's only offering for the SUV-hungry public was the XC70. First launched as the Cross Country, the model employed the body of the V70 wagon with an upgraded suspension that allowed it to venture off road. The XC70 formula actually worked well, leading Audi to introduce its own competitive version of the concept, the Allroad. Though it lacks the interior room most SUV buyers seek, the XC70 is extremely capable in deep snow and mud and makes a surprisingly comfortable everyday driver.
