Volkswagen's New Beetle's continuing popularity has proven its unique,retro shape to be more than just a passing fad. It may not arrive with the same sort of bargain-basement price that made the original Beetle such a world-wide favorite,but it is still easily attainable for even modest budgets and,as did the original,offers a good value for the money. Based on the VW Golf platform,it has a front engine and front-wheel drive,unlike the rear-engine,rear-drive original. Since the New Beetle's introduction a few years ago,VW has added a popular convertible model to round out the line and keep sales moving,and the New Beetle remains as one of the most easily recognizable cars on the road today.
