The Golf is Volkswagen's best selling model. Consumers love this car for its good fuel economy, excellent safety record and impressive features. Some see the Golf as a truncated Jetta, which is somewhat true,as the two cars share the same chassis, drivetrain and interior. But the Golf's hatchback design allows it to swallow enormous volumes of cargo, making it ideal for college students, people with large dogs and active weekends. The current Golf is nearing the end of a five-year run, meaning as the 2007 models begin making their way to showrooms (usually in the Fall) dealers will be making some great deals to move the 2006 cars. If fuel economy is really important, and you can find the rare and much sought-after TDI diesel model, buy it. The TDI achieves 44-miles per gallon on the highway and holds an exceptionally high resale value.
