Subaru created the Outback wagon in response to the rise in popularity of the compact SUV. As so often happens with Subaru cars,a cult following quickly gathered. Young outdoor enthusiasts flocked to the Outback, impressed by its versatility, outstanding off-road abilities, strong safety record and reasonable sticker price. Though the current Outback rests on an entirely new platform, the basic formula remains unchanged. Based on the Legacy wagon, the Outback provides more ground clearance and offers more features for roughing it in the Great Outdoors. There are no less than seven different Outback models from which to choose. The 2.5i and 2.5 XT make up the entry-level models and are priced within reach of most consumers. Of course,Subaru recognizes portions of the Outback's faithful customers are, well, maturing,so the company now offers two six-cylinder luxury variants dubbed the L.L. Bean and VDC Limited Edition.
