The Montego shares its platform with the new Ford Five Hundred and, other than a few cosmetic differences; the two vehicles are virtually identical. This may pose a problem for Mercury as it struggles to define its brand name and image. Mercury vehicles were once closer to Lincoln products in styling and content than Ford, and customers today are not so easily swayed by a simple grille change or interior color option. For those who put stock in the Mercury name, the Montego should serve you well. It's a big sedan on par with the Grand Marquis, but with a more sophisticated suspension,front-wheel or all-wheel-drive chassis and a revolutionary CVT automatic transmission. And,lest we forget,a trunk about the size of Rhode Island.
