Jeep's new-for-2006 Commander is essentially a Grand Cherokee raised and squared off to accommodate three rows of passengers within the same approximate size. Compared to the Grand Cherokee,it's roughly two-inches longer,four-inches taller and 300-pounds heavier on the same 109.5-inch wheelbase, the added height accommodating ""stadium"" seating that places each row slightly higher than the one ahead. Its blocky shape reminds us of a pumped-up Jeep Cherokee (1984-2001)?which in fact served as a strong styling inspiration. The Commander's mission is to transport up to seven in quiet and comfort without sacrificing serious off-road capability.
