The X3 is BMW's smallest SUV offering. Based on the popular 3 Series chassis, the X3 is supposed to deliver a car-like ride and handling with the high seating position and cargo hauling abilities of an SUV. Unfortunately, the X3 has it backwards, offering a rather stiff ride without much in the way of rear-seat legroom or cargo space. Two other BMW models might be better alternatives, depending upon your needs. The 3-Series all-wheel-drive station wagon is a satisfying road car with better-than-average carrying capacity, while the base X5,though expensive, offers more interior space in an SUV. Look for attractive lease deals to help move the 2006 X3 model.
