Overview

What's New for 2012:
- Added trim levels
- Upgraded driveline
- Volvo City Safety technology standard on all models

Exterior Features
The 2012 Volvo XC70 is a luxury wagon available in two models--3.2 and T6--which are offered in three trim levels--Premier (3.2 only), Premium Plus, and Platinum. All models feature a raised suspension with 8.3 inches of ground clearance and 16-inch wheels as standard.

Interior Features
The Volvo XC70 seats 5 passengers and has 33.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in use and 72.1 cubic feet with the seats folded down. Base models feature cloth upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, locking floor storage compartment, and power driver seat. The XC70 3.2 Premier trim offers leather upholstery and a sunroof, while the Premier Plus adds a power liftgate. The top-of-the-line Platinum trim adds a navigation system and rearview camera.

Optional Features
Volvo has introduced three new trim levels (outlined above) for 2012 that carry the bulk of the XC70's optional features, leaving few stand-alone options beyond active bi-Xenon headlights and a blind-spot monitoring system. However, Volvo offers a Technology package that includes collision warning and pedestrian detection with full auto brake, and a Climate package with heated seats and rain-sensing wipers.

Under the Hood
The base model Volvo XC70 is fitted with a 3.2-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine rated at 240 horsepower.  The XC70 T6 all-wheel-drive (AWD) model is equipped with a turbocharged, 3.0-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine rated at 300 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) are standard on base models, with AWD optional.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Volvo XC70 are:
- XC70 3.2 with FWD: 19/25/21 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- XC70 3.2 with AWD: 18/24/20 mpg
- XC70 T6 AWD: 17/23/20 mpg

Safety
Standard safety features of note on the Volvo XC70 include active front head restraints, front-seat side air bags, and full-length side curtain air bags, in addition to Volvo's City Safety technology, which the automaker says can mitigate or avoid low-speed frontal impact by applying brakes without driver intervention.

To date, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have tested the 2012 Volvo XC70.
