Overview

The Volvo XC60 is a compact crossover that was first introduced to the European market in 2008. However, the North American model was launched for the 2010 model year. This year, Volvo has added a new trim level and increased horsepower on both engines. Lastly, there is a new infotainment system, but it will be released later in the year.

The XC60 is offered in four trim levels - easily understood as two different engine choices with or without the automaker's R-Design equipment package. Compared to the standard models, R-Design models are offered with upgraded and sportier equipment, including more aggressive cosmetics and larger wheels. The standard XC60 3.2 arrives with front-wheel drive, cloth upholstery, power-operated driver's seat, full power accessories, air conditioning, 17-inch alloy wheels, and more. The T6 models are fitted with the turbocharged powerplant, which is accompanied with all-wheel drive, power passenger seat, leather upholstery, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The R-Design adds equipment such as all-wheel drive, adaptive xenon headlights, sport-tuned suspension, unique cosmetics, panoramic sunroof, and 20-inch wheels.

Under the hood of the XC60 is a 3.2-liter, six-cylinder, rated at 240 horsepower. It is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive is optional. All T6 models feature a turbocharged 3.0-liter, six-cylinder, rated at 300 horsepower. Like the naturally-aspirated model, the engine is mated to a standard six-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard on all T6 variants. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Volvo XC60 between 17 mpg city, and 25 mpg highway, depending on driveline.

The 2011 Volvo XC60 starts with a base price of about $35,000 and tops out with the Turbo Premium model, which starts around $53,000.
