Overview

What's New
After receiving a major freshening for 2005, the Volvo V70 sees minor changes for 2006. The T5 model is deleted, with the V70 2.4 taking its place as the base model. The 2.4 receives 16-inch wheels as standard, while the 2.5T gets a new wheel design. The Convenience Package adds power child locks, a sunglasses holder, and park assist, and 17-inch wheels are now available as an option. Finally, Lunar Gold replaces Ash Gold and Willow Green replaces Platinum Green in the exterior color department.

Overview
Volvo's premium V70 wagon comes in two flavors for 2006: the 2.4 and 2.5T. Under the hood of the V70 2.4 is a normally aspirated, inline-five-cylinder engine that puts out 168 hp (165 hp in states with California emissions) and comes coupeed to the standard 5-speed manual transmission or available 5-speed, electronically controlled automatic. Selecting the V70 2.5T nets the turbocharged and intercooled I-5 that spins out 208 hp and 236 lb.-ft. of torque. This powerplant is mated to a standard 5-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, which enables the driver to shift manually when desired via the Auto-Stick function. Standard safety features include ABS-assisted brakes, stability and traction control, Volvo's Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) with side air bags and an inflatable curtain, a Whiplash Protection Seating System, seat belts with pyrotechnic pre-tensioners in all seating positions, dual-stage front air bags, Volvo's safety-cage construction, and attachments for rear-facing child safety seats. A tire pressure-monitoring system is also available. Standard amenities include fog lamps, puddle lamps on the exterior mirrors, dual-zone climate control with a cabin pollen filter, power, heated outside mirrors with memory, a cargo security cover, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel with illuminated cruise and audio controls, and a trip computer.

Notable options include a Premium Package with a power glass moonroof, leather seating surfaces, a power driver's seat with eight-way memory (2.4 models), a power passenger's seat (2.5T models), electronic climate control (2.4 models), and genuine wood inlays for the interior trim. There's also a Convenience Package with a HomeLink garage door transmitter, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a grocery bag holder (not available on models with the third-row seat), a cargo protection net, a 12-volt outlet in the cargo area, roof rails, power child locks, a sunglasses holder, and rear park assist. A Run-Flat Package is available should you not want to change a tire on the road; plus, a tire pressure-monitoring system is available. Those that drive in cold-climate areas may opt for the Climate Package that adds heated front seats, headlamp washers, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Other stand-alone options include metallic paint, a power glass moonroof, leather seating surfaces, 17-inch alloy wheels (including speed-sensitive steering), integrated rear child booster seats, a rear-facing third-row seat (deletes the cargo security cover), an interior air quality sensor (2.4 models only; requires the Premium Package), satellite radio preparation (included with the navigation system on the 2.5T), a premium 6-disc, in-dash CD changer stereo with Dolby Pro Logic II (2.5T models only), and a DVD-based navigation system (2.5T models only).
