Overview

The Volvo C30 is a compact, front-wheel-drive, 4-seat hatchback with some sporty performance features, including a turbocharged engine, and employs a Ford-built platform. Exterior styling has been slightly revised for 2010 for a trendier look. Bluetooth and cruise control have also been added as standard features for 2010, and the list of options has been streamlined. The Volvo C30 competes with the Mini Cooper, Audi A3 and A4, and BMW 3 Series, among others.

Two trim levels are available on the 2010 Volvo C30. The base trim features 17-inch alloy wheels, manual dual-zone air conditioning, a sliding and tilting sunroof, remote keyless entry, heated front seats, cruise control, trip computer, and some power accessories. An 8-speaker sound system and Bluetooth connectivity are also included. The C30 T5 R-Design adds 18-inch wheels, sport suspension, and a rear spoiler. Several option packages are available, and can include leather upholstery, power front seats, keyless ignition, bi-Xenon headlights, upgraded sound system, automatic climate control, and a navigation system. The C30 features 13 cubic feet of cargo space behind the two rear bucket seats, and 20 cubic feet when those seats are folded.

The 2010 Volvo C30's standard power plant is a 227-horsepower, 2.5-liter, inline 5-cylinder engine with a 6-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed automatic transmission is optional. According to the EPA, the C30 delivers 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

The 2010 Volvo C30's standard safety features include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, front head restraints, stability control, traction control, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. A blind-spot-alert system is optional. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the C30 highest-possible "Good" ratings across the board in frontal-offset, rear-impact, and side-impact crash tests.
