Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Volkswagen Jetta is a compact 4-door sedan and 5-door wagon. Fifteen-inch steel wheels are standard.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Volkswagen Jetta offers seating for 5 passengers. Base Jetta models feature cloth or perforated vinyl upholstery, power locks, power windows, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, and second-row 60/40 split-folding seats. Higher trim levels feature air conditioning, full power accessories, premium upholstery, Bluetooth phone connectivity, alloy wheels, and other premium features.
Optional FeaturesMajor option packages available on the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta include a satellite-based navigation system, sunroof package, and premium audio.
Under the HoodVolkswagen Jetta models are fitted with one of three engines. The standard power plant is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder rated at 115 horsepower. Higher trim levels are fitted with a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine rated at 170 horsepower. The Jetta TDI is a diesel variant fitted with a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 140 horsepower. Gasoline models are fitted with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Diesel models employ a 6-speed manual or an optional dual-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission. All Jetta models are front-wheel drive.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta are:
- Volkswagen Jetta with 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine and automatic transmission: 24/32 mpg (city/highway)
- Volkswagen Jetta with 2.5-liter 5-cylinder gasoline engine and manual transmission: 23/33 mpg (city/highway)
- Volkswagen Jetta TDI with 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine and manual transmission: 30/42 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features on the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta include side curtain air bags and anti-lock brakes. In government crash tests, the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Jetta sedan received a "Good" rating-the Institute's highest-for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection. Roof strength results from the Institute were also "Good."
