What's New for 2013:

Exterior Features
For 2013, the Volkswagen Eos is sold in Komfort, Lux, Sport and Executive trim levels. A 4-passenger convertible, the Eos is equipped with a power-retractable hardtop with an integrated sunroof, aluminum wheels, heated washer nozzles, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, and LED taillights. All trims except the base Komfort trim also include bi-xenon headlights with LED running lights and an Adaptive Front Lighting System.

Interior Features
The 2013 Eos includes a dual-zone automatic climate control system with rear passenger air vents, trip computer with an outside temperature indicator, ambient cabin lighting, touch-screen radio system, Bluetooth connectivity and audio streaming, heated seats, 12-way power driver's seat, leatherette upholstery, and a windblocker to reduce cabin buffeting.

Optional Features
Upgrading to higher trim levels provides features such as leather upholstery, navigation system, keyless entry and push-button ignition, wood interior trim, power front passenger's seat, premium 600-watt Dynaudio sound system, reversing camera, and more.

Under the Hood
A turbocharged, direct-injected, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine powers the 2013 VW Eos, providing 200 horsepower between 5,100 and 6,000 rpm and 207 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,800 and 5,000 rpm. A 6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) automated manual transmission with a Sport mode delivers the power to the front wheels.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the 2013 Eos is expected to get 22 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg in combined driving.

Safety
Every 2013 Volkswagen Eos is equipped with dual front air bags, dual front-seat-mounted side air bags designed to protect the head and the body, and a rollover protection system. Additionally, the Eos has 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist and brake disc wiping, traction and stability control, Hill-Hold Control, and an Intelligent Crash Response System that activates if the air bags deploy. Depending on the trim selected, an Adaptive Front Lighting System and a reversing camera are available.

As of the writing of this article, the Eos has not been tested for roof crush strength by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Eos received a "Good" rating--the Institute's highest--for frontal- and side-offset and rear-impact crash protection.
