Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup offered in regular, extended, and crew cab body styles. Eighteen-inch steel wheels are standard, with larger alloy wheels available on higher grades.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Toyota Tundra offers seating for up to 6 passengers. Base Tundra models are configured with cloth upholstery, dual-zone air conditioning, 4-zone audio system, and more. Higher trim levels include power windows, power locks, leather upholstery, keyless entry, bed tie-down system, and other upscale appointments.
Optional FeaturesThe options list on the 2012 Toyota Tundra includes such items as wide mirrors for towing, satellite-based navigation system, rear-seat entertainment system, and more. The TRD Rock Warrior package adds heavy-duty off-road equipment.
Under the HoodToyota Tundra models are fitted with one of three engines. The standard is a 4.0-liter V-6 engine rated at 236 horsepower mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Optional is a 4.6-liter V-8 engine rated at 310 horsepower or a 5.7-liter V-8 rated at 381 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic transmission is the sole gearbox offering on V-8 models. Rear-wheel drive (2WD) is standard, with 4-wheel drive (4WD) optional.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Toyota Tundra are:
- Toyota Tundra 2WD with 4.0-liter V-6 engine: 16/20 mpg (city/highway)
- Toyota Tundra 4WD with 5.7-liter V-8 engine: 13/17 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Toyota Tundra include side curtain air bags, trailer-sway control, and knee air bags. In government crash tests, the 2012 Toyota Tundra received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars and a rating of 5 for side crash protection, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as well as 4 stars for frontal-crash protection and 3 stars for rollover crash protection. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Tundra received a "Good" rating-the Institute's highest-for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection as well as for rollover crash protection. The Tundra was named an IIHS "Top Safety Pick" in 2011.
