Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Toyota Sienna is a minivan offered in five different trim levels. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels are standard, with larger wheels available on higher grades.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Toyota Sienna offers seating for up to 8 passengers. Base Sienna models are configured with cloth upholstery, tri-zone air conditioning with air filter, 7-passenger seating, cruise control, 60/40 split third-row seating, remote keyless entry, and more. Higher trim levels include upscale appointments such as leather upholstery, power rear liftgate, 8-passenger seating, digital climate controls for rear passengers, JBL audio system, and a voice-activated DVD-based navigation system.
Optional FeaturesMajor stand-alone options available on the 2012 Toyota Sienna include a trailer-towing package (maximum trailer weight of 3500 pounds when properly equipped, according to Toyota), anti-theft alarm system, and a power tilt/slide moonroof with sunshade.
Under the HoodToyota Sienna models are fitted with one of two engines. The standard power plant is a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder rated at 187 horsepower. The optional engine is a 3.6-liter V-6, which is rated at 266 horsepower. Both engines come mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD), designed to improve traction in inclement weather, is optional-unusual for models in this segment.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Toyota Sienna are:
- Toyota Sienna FWD with 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine: 19/24 mpg (city/highway)
- Toyota Sienna AWD with 3.6-liter V-6 engine: 17/23 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Toyota Sienna include side curtain air bags for all three rows and a driver head restraint whiplash protection system. In government crash tests, the 2012 Toyota Sienna received a rating of 5 (out of 5) stars for side crash protection and a rating of 4 (out of 5) for rollover protection, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but was not assigned an overall rating. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Sienna received a "Good" rating-the Institute's highest-for frontal-offset and side-impact crashes and for rollover protection. The Sienna also earned a "Good" rating in the Institute's roof strength tests.
