The Toyota Sienna is an up-to-8-passenger minivan that was first introduced as the Previa in 1984. That first model, however, was very unconventional as its engine was located in the middle of the chassis. While this design improved handling, the largest engine that would fit was a 4-cylinder, meaning the first-generation Previa was, for many, underpowered. The first Sienna-featuring a fresh redesign to go along with its new name-arrived in 1998, followed by its replacement in 2004. The 2011 model year marks the arrival of an all-new third-generation minivan, which must compete against all-new models from Honda and Nissan.
The 2011 Toyota Sienna is offered in five different trims: Sienna, LE, SE, XLE, and Limited. The base Sienna and LE models are only configured for 7-passenger seating, while the SE, XLE and Limited are configured for 8-passenger occupancy. Standard equipment on all Siennas for 2011 includes full power accessories, cloth upholstery, air conditioning with triple-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, and more. The LE trim is upgraded with tinted windows, back-up camera, 8-way driver's seat, and more. The LE models with the optional V-6 engine are fitted with a roof rack, power sliding doors, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and other amenities. The SE model is the sportiest offering, with a unique front fascia including fog lights, lower body skirting, unique leather/cloth upholstery, 19-inch alloy wheels, and more. The XLE is fitted with leather upholstery, power rear liftgate, woodgrain trim, power driver's seat, heated front seats, and more. The range-topping Limited features dual sunroofs, keyless entry and ignition, upgraded 10-speaker JBL audio system, 18-inch alloy wheels, and other luxury appointments. Major options on the 2011 Toyota Sienna include navigation and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.
The 2011 Toyota Sienna is fitted with one of two engines. The standard engine on the base models is a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder rated at 187 horsepower. The optional engine, standard on SE, XLE, and Limited trims, is a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder rated at 266 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard with either engine. Rare in the category, the Sienna is offered with a choice between front- and all-wheel drive (AWD). The full-time AWD powertrain is designed to increase traction during inclement weather, not for off-road use, Toyota says. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Toyota Sienna between 16 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, depending on engine and driveline.
The 2011 Toyota Sienna starts at a base price of around $25,500 and tops out with the Sienna Limited, which starts at around $40,000.
