Overview
Despite being in the minivan market since 1984, Toyota didn't really achieve market acceptance until the introduction of the current-generation Sienna in 2004. The Sienna made its mark by offering several firsts, including a split-fold third-row seat and roll-up side windows-features that have since been incorporated into many of the Sienna's competitors. However, the Sienna remains among the leaders in the minivan market thanks to innovative options like a power-folding third-row seat and hard-to-find features like an available all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain in addition to the standard front-wheel-drive (FWD) system.

Model Lineup
The 2008 Toyota Sienna is available in CE, LE, XLE and Limited models, and in AWD configuration for all but the CE trim. The Sienna also offers a Rampvan model for customers with mobility needs. The CE and LE can be configured for 7 or 8 passengers, while the rest are 7-passenger only. A long list of standard features on the CE includes dual sliding doors with power windows, 60/40 Split & Stow third-row seat, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, folding tray tables, remote keyless entry, and a conversation mirror in the overhead console. The 8-passenger seating arrangement, available only on CE and LE grades, has a second-row center seat that can be moved almost 13 inches forward for easier access to children in car seats. The top-end Limited model adds standard Dynamic Laser Cruise Control, High Intensity Discharge headlamps, high-end JBL audio system, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and leather seating and trim, among other items.

Powertrain
A 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine is the only choice for all trim levels of the 2008 Toyota Sienna minivan. It makes 266 hp and 245 lb.-ft. of torque. Both the FWD and AWD models employ a 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. EPA fuel-economy estimates for the Sienna are 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway with FWD and 16 mpg city/21 mpg highway with AWD. There is no difference in fuel economy between the manual and automatic transmission models.

Safety
As a minivan designed to carry families, the Sienna has a comprehensive list of safety features, including advanced front air bags, side seat-mounted and side curtain air bags, tire-pressure-monitoring system, and child protector sliding door locks. The Limited trim level is equipped with front and rear sonar parking system, and the AWD model comes standard with run-flat tires. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Toyota Sienna a 4-star rating for the driver's side and a 5-star rating for the front passenger side in a frontal impact. It received 5 stars for all occupants in a side impact, and 4 stars for the rollover test. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given the Sienna a "Good" rating for offset crash tests in frontal and side-impact tests.

Technology
The AWD system in the 2008 Toyota Sienna utilizes a center differential to divide engine power 50/50 to the front and rear wheels. Wheel slippage at either end automatically transfers more torque to the opposite wheels to help provide traction. The third-row seat features a power-folding option, and the second-row bench has a Front and Center middle section that moves forward almost 13 inches so the adults in the front row can more easily reach the child.
