What's New for 2012:
- Trailer-sway control becomes standard
- Blind-spot monitoring system included on top trim level
Exterior Features
The 2012 Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV with seating for 7 or 8 passengers, depending on configuration. There are three trim levels, each of which comes with the choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive (2WD or AWD). Toyota says its design, with a 0.36 drag coefficient, is as aerodynamic as many smaller SUVs. Headlamp washers are standard, and the rear-door opening angle is wide for easy access.
Interior Features
Standard features on the Toyota Sequoia include keyless entry, sunroof, vertically sliding rear window, cruise control, power front seats, flexible second- and third-row seats, Bluetooth and audio connectivity, and a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Toyota says each seating position accommodates above-average heights.
Optional Features
Most options available for the Toyota Sequoia are included in packages that accompany higher trim levels, including 20-inch alloy wheels, leather-trimmed and heated 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror with a rearview camera and monitor, rear-seat entertainment system, and captain's chairs to replace the second-row bench seat.
Under the Hood
The 2012 Toyota Sequoia is fitted with a base 4.6-liter V-8 engine rated at 310 horsepower, and a 5.7-liter V-8 rated at 381 horsepower for higher trim levels. A 6-speed automatic transmission is the sole choice.
Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Toyota Sequoia are:
- Sequoia with 4.6-liter engine: 14/20/16 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Sequoia with 5.7-liter engine: 13/18/15 mpg
Safety
Standard safety equipment on the Toyota Sequoia includes anti-lock disk brakes, stability control, traction control, trailer-sway control, and a number of air bags.
In government tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Sequoia received 4 (out of 5) stars for rollover protection. To date, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not tested the 2012 Toyota Sequoia.
