Exterior Features
The 2013 Toyota Prius v is a 5-door, 5-passenger station wagon constructed upon the standard Toyota Prius platform. It is sold in Prius v Two, Prius v Three, and Prius v Five trim levels. Toyota does not offer this car in Prius v Four trim.

Standard equipment for the Prius v Two includes auto-off headlights, LED taillights, folding heated power exterior mirrors, and 16-inch aluminum wheels with aerodynamic wheel covers.

Interior Features

The 2013 Toyota Prius v Two is equipped with a humidity-sensing automatic climate control system with a dust and pollen filter, power windows, power door locks, Smart Key keyless access and push-button ignition, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, and cloth seats with a manual driver seat height adjuster. A Display Audio system with a 6.1-inch color touch screen is also standard, equipped with Bluetooth hands-free calling and streaming audio, USB port, iPod connection, auxiliary audio input jack, and a reversing camera.

Optional Features
The Toyota Prius v Three adds a navigation system with Entune multi-media services and voice-recognition technology, and the Display Audio system is upgraded with HD Radio, satellite radio, and iTunes tagging capability. Otherwise, this trim level is identical to the Prius v Two.

The Prius v Five is the top-of-the-line trim level, and adds automatic LED headlights with headlight washers, fog lights, 17-inch aluminum wheels, expanded Smart Key operation, auto-dimming rearview mirror, universal garage door opener, and SofTex leatherette for the seats and steering wheel.

Purchasing the Prius v Five also provides a pathway to several options and option packages. This trim level is exclusively offered with a hard-drive navigation system, premium audio system, panoramic sunroof, Advanced Parking Guidance System, and several safety-related features including Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, and Safety Connect telematics with Automatic Collision Notification service.

In addition to these features installed on the assembly line, Toyota dealers offer a range of extra-cost accessories for any Prius v.

Under the Hood
The Toyota Prius v is equipped with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, electric assist motor, and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Combined, this gas/electric powertrain generates 134 horsepower, fed to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Notably, the Prius v is what is called a "full hybrid." That means it can operate on electricity alone at speeds up to 25 mph.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Toyota Prius v are 44/40/42 mpg (city/highway/combined).

The 2013 Toyota Prius v is equipped with 7 air bags, traction control, stability control, hill-start assist, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist. The Prius v also includes Toyota's Smart Stop technology, which is designed to make it impossible for the car to accelerate if the brake pedal is pressed. A reversing camera is also standard.

The Prius v Five can be upgraded with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, and Safety Connect telematics with Automatic Collision Notification service. The Automatic Collision Notification system activates when the air bags deploy, notifying authorities that an accident has occurred and helping to speed rescuers to the vehicle's location.

As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the 2013 Toyota Prius v. However, the Institute named the structurally similar 2012 model a "Top Safety Pick."
