The 2012 Toyota Matrix is a 5-passenger hatchback available in two trim levels. Standard equipment includes 16-inch wheels and heated mirrors. According to Toyota, the Matrix has sport-coupe-inspired styling cues and a sporty, dynamic shape that includes rounded rear windows and continuous character lines that run from the front grille to the A-pillar.
The Toyota Matrix comes standard with cruise control, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, 4-speaker sound system with CD player and auxiliary audio jack, and a cargo-area folding tonneau cover. Optitron instrument-panel gauges feature bright white lighting and new silver ornamentation, with a large round speedometer mounted in the center and a tachometer to its left.
Options on the Toyota Matrix come in packages and include fog lamps, fold-flat passenger seat, 6-speaker sound system, 115-volt outlet, sunroof, Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, iPod interface, satellite radio, front and rear underbody spoilers, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Under the Hood
The 2012 Toyota Matrix comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD), with all-wheel drive (AWD) available on the upper trim. The lower-trim Matrix is powered by a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 132 horsepower. The upper-level trim is fitted with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 158 horsepower. Both trims come standard with a 5-speed manual transmission, with an optional 4-speed automatic transmission.
