Overview

The Toyota Land Cruiser is as comfortable in rugged off-road venues as it is shuttling dinner guests to the country club. Earning its reputation over decades, the full-size, 7-passenger SUV has more recently become Toyota's flagship model (the Lexus LX is a derivative of the Land Cruiser). As such, it is outfitted with many of the automaker's luxury appointments. Last redesigned for the 2008 model year, the 2010 model receives only minor updates.

  • Mostly a carryover for 2010
  • New "Safety Connect" telematics system to dispatch emergency responders in the event of a serious collision
  • New enhanced navigation system with XM NavTraffic
  • New Bluetooth connectivity

One of the longest-running SUV models, the Toyota Land Cruiser has been on the market for more than 50 years. It's a rugged luxury model that competes with high-end SUVs such as the Cadillac Escalade, Land Rover Range Rover, and Lexus LX 570. The Land Cruiser carries up to 8 people. The 2010 model adds a new emergency communications system.

The 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser is available in one trim level, with options. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, sunroof, 4-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, 14-speaker JBL sound system that teams up with Bluetooth streaming audio, and the Safety Connect telematics system, among many other features. An Upgrade package of options includes a navigation system and a rear spoiler (both available as stand-alone options), plus a rear-seat entertainment system, backup camera, and other enhancements.

With all three rows of seats up, the Land Cruiser offers 16 cubic feet of cargo space, according to Toyota. With the second- and third-row seats stowed, total cargo space is 82 cubic feet. Properly equipped, the Land Cruiser can tow up to 8500 pounds.

The 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser's standard power plant is a 381-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8 engine that produces 401 lb.-ft. of torque. It teams up with a 6-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4-wheel drive (4WD). According to the EPA, it delivers 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.

Standard safety features on the 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, stability control, traction control, active front head restraints, front- and second-row side air bags, front knee air bags, side curtain air bags, and front and rear parking sensors. The 2010 model adds Toyota's proprietary Safety Connect emergency communications system, which notifies emergency responders in the event of severe rear impact or air bag deployment, or if an SOS button is pushed.

Starting MSRP for the 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser was $65,970.
