Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • Standard chrome grille
  • LE trim level gains chrome side molding
  • Display Audio system standard on LE and S trims

Exterior Features
The 2013 Toyota Corolla is available in L, LE and S trim levels. All Corollas receive a new chrome grille design this year, and the LE gains chrome beltline moldings. The Corolla L is basic, equipped with 15-inch steel wheels with gray plastic wheel covers. Power side mirrors are standard, and are heated on the Corolla LE. The LE trim level also adds larger wheels and tires as well as variable intermittent windshield wipers, while the S trim includes racy styling add-ons, fog lights, aluminum wheels, and a chrome-tipped exhaust outlet.

Interior Features
Every 2013 Corolla is equipped with air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, stereo with a CD player and an auxiliary audio input jack, height-adjustable driver's seat, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a trip computer.

The LE trim adds a Display Audio system with a 6.1-inch touch screen, additional speakers, USB port, iPod connectivity and control, and Bluetooth with hands-free calling, phone book download, and music streaming capabilities. The LE also comes with cruise control and stereo controls on the steering wheel.

The Corolla S features sport-designed fabric, sport steering wheel, and sport-themed gauges.

Optional Features
Buyers selecting the Corolla L can add the Display Audio system as an option. For the LE and S trims, Toyota offers a power sunroof, navigation system, satellite radio, and an overhead console with storage for sunglasses. The LE trim is also available with a Premium package including aluminum wheels.

Under the Hood
A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard on every Corolla, delivering 128 horsepower to the car's front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Toyota Corolla are:

  • Corolla with manual transmission: 27/34/30 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Corolla with automatic transmission: 26/34/29 mpg

Safety
Every 2013 Toyota Corolla is equipped with what the company calls a Star Safety System: 6 air bags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, and a traction and stability control system. Additionally, the Corolla is equipped with a Smart Stop system that is designed to prevent the car from accelerating when the brake pedal is depressed.

In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Corolla receives an overall protection rating of 4 stars (out of 5). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not established a rating for the 2013 Corolla as this overview is written. However, the structurally identical 2012 model was named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Institute.
