Exterior Features
The 2012 Toyota Avalon is a full-size sedan that seats 5 passengers, and is best known for its generous leg room: 41 inches in the rear seats. The Avalon offers numerous features and a wide range of options on the base trim. The Avalon underwent a considerable upgrade in the 2011 model year, adding several luxury features. For 2012, the base trim features 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, fog lights, and a sunroof. The Avalon Limited trim includes Xenon headlights, automatic wipers, and keyless entry and ignition.

Interior Features
Standard interior features on the Toyota Avalon include leather upholstery, reclining rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, power accessories, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 9-speaker sound system. The Limited trim includes heated and ventilated front seats with more power adjustability, power rear sunshade, and an upgraded sound system. Trunk capacity is 14.4 cubic feet.

Optional Features
The 2012 Toyota Avalon offers an optional voice-activated navigation system on both trims. Heated front seats and an upgraded sound system are optional on the base model.

Under the Hood
The Avalon's standard power plant is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated at 268 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque and mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel and all-wheel drive (FWD and AWD) are available.

EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Toyota Avalon are 19/28/23 mpg (city/highway/combined).

Safety
Standard safety features on the 2012 Toyota Avalon include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, front-seat side air bags, side curtain air bags, and driver knee air bag.

In government tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Avalon received 4 (out of 5) stars for rollover protection. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Avalon received "Good" ratings--the Institute's highest--for all crash protection tests.
