Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • Standard Brake Override technology
  • Standard Bluetooth connectivity
  • Standard leather seats
  • Standard premium sound system

Exterior Features
The 2013 Subaru Tribeca is a 3-row, 7-passenger crossover SUV. For 2013, it comes in a single trim level, the 3.6R Limited. Standard equipment includes power heated exterior mirrors, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, fog lights, and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior Features
The 2013 Subaru Tribeca is equipped with power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, cruise control, and ambient interior lighting. Leather upholstery is also standard, as well as an 8-way power driver seat, 4-way power front passenger seat, heated front seats, 60/40-split folding and sliding second-row seat, and a 50/50-split folding third-row seat. Dual-zone automatic climate control with manual rear air conditioning, electroluminescent gauge lighting, and a universal garage door opener are also included, and the premium 10-speaker stereo system includes Bluetooth and satellite radio.

Behind the third-row seat, the Tribeca offers 8.3 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold the third-row seat down, and cargo volume expands to 37.6 cubic feet. Maximum cargo volume with both rows of rear seats folded is 74.4 cubic feet.

Optional Features
Options for the 2013 Subaru Tribeca include a Power Moonroof package with a reversing camera with the display embedded into an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Navigation package with a touch-screen navigation system, and a Rear Seat Entertainment package with a 9-inch widescreen display and video game input jacks. Additional accessories are available through the Subaru dealer.

Under the Hood

The Subaru Tribeca is equipped with a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine that generates 256 horsepower. A 5-speed automatic transmission puts the power to the ground through a Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) version of Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Under normal conditions, power flows in a 45:55 front-to-rear split. When the Tribeca's wheels start to slip, VTD automatically apportions power as it sees fit.

The Tribeca provides 8.4 inches of ground clearance and, when properly equipped, it can tow up to 3,500 pounds.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Subaru Tribeca are 16/21/18 mpg (city/highway/combined).

Safety
In addition to 6 air bags, traction and stability control, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, the 2013 Subaru Tribeca is equipped with a Ring-Shaped Frame Reinforcement body structure designed to deflect crash energy away from the passenger cabin in a collision.

For 2013, the Tribeca also has a new Brake Override system that is designed to make it impossible to accelerate if the brake pedal is pressed. A reversing camera is optional, and dealers can install reversing sensors in the Tribeca's rear bumper.

As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the 2013 Tribeca's crash-test performance. Last year, the structurally identical 2012 model was called a "Top Safety Pick" by the IIHS.
