Exterior FeaturesThe 2013 Subaru Legacy is a 5-passenger sedan available with 2.5i and 3.6R model designations and standard, Premium and Limited trim levels.
For 2013, the Legacy's styling has been revised, including a new grille, headlights and front bumper. The base 2.5i model rides on 16-inch wheels, while all other versions get 17-inch aluminum wheels. The Legacy's trunk can hold 14.7 cubic feet of cargo.
Interior FeaturesThe 2013 Subaru Legacy 2.5i is available in base, Premium and Limited trim levels, while the Legacy 3.6R is offered in base and Limited. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, and floor mats. A stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, Bluetooth streaming audio, USB port, and an auxiliary audio input jack also comes standard.
Upgrading to the Premium trim adds a 10-way power driver's seat, while the Limited trim includes leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and side mirrors, wiper de-icer, fog lights, and HD Radio.
Optional FeaturesThe 2013 Subaru Legacy options include a navigation system, premium Harman/Kardon sound system, power sunroof, reversing camera, and Subaru's EyeSight collision-avoidance system.
Under the HoodFor 2013, a new 173-horsepower, 2.5-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine is offered for Legacy 2.5i models. It is paired with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox in base and Premium trim models. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters is optional on these models and standard on the 2.5i Limited.
The Legacy 3.6R is equipped with a 3.6-liter horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine making 256 horsepower. A 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and downshift rev matching is standard on this model.
Every 2013 Legacy is equipped with all-wheel drive and a Hill Holder system that keeps the car in place on an incline while the driver switches from the brake to the accelerator.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Subaru Legacy are:
- Legacy 2.5i with manual transmission: 21/28/24 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Legacy 2.5i with CVT: 24/32/27 mpg
- Legacy 3.6R with automatic transmission: 18/25/20 mpg
SafetyThe 2013 Legacy is equipped with 6 air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist and brake override features, and a traction and stability control system. A reversing camera is optional. In addition, Subaru's new EyeSight driver assist system is optional, and includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking system, pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning.
Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2013 Legacy as this overview is written. However, the structurally similar 2012 model was named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Institute.
