The Scion xB is a highly customizable, front-wheel-drive, compact 5-passenger station wagon with a distinctive boxy profile. The xB is available in Base and Release Series 9.0 trims. The Base model features 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, and tinted rear window, while the Release Series 9.0--of which only 1,500 are available--features "Hot Lava" exterior paint and a distinctive grille treatment.
The Base Scion xB features cloth upholstery, air conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, some power accessories, and a 6-speaker sound system. The Release Series 9.0 features faux-suede upholstery. The Scion xB offers 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and 70 cubic feet with those seats folded down.
Options on the 2012 Scion xB include 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels; fog lights; DVD-based rear-seat entertainment system; satellite radio; upgraded sound system with multiple high-tech features; navigation system; reversing camera; rear spoiler; remote ignition; premium ambient lighting; and many other upgrades. Nearly all of these options are dealer-installed.
Under the Hood
The 2012 Scion xB's power plant consists of a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine rated at 158 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard and a 4-speed automatic transmission is optional.
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Scion xB are 22/28/24 mpg (city/highway/combined).
Safety features on the 2012 Scion xB include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags.
To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not conducted tests on the 2012 Scion xB. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the xB received a "Good" rating--the Institute's highest--for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection and roof strength.
