Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • 2000 examples of the Series Release 8.0 in Absolutely Red paint, with a Five Axis body kit, TRD performance upgrades, and more

Exterior Features
The 2013 Scion tC is a 4-passenger sport coupe equipped with what Scion calls "mono-spec" trim, which means it is offered one way with a handful of options. Standard exterior features include power side mirrors with LED turn signal repeaters, panoramic glass roof with a sunroof, projector-beam headlights, and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

For 2013, a limited-production run of tC Series Release 8.0 models are painted in a unique shade of red, and are equipped with a body kit from Five Axis, a center-exit sport exhaust system from the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) catalog, TRD lowering springs, and gloss black wheels.

Interior Features
The 2013 Scion tC features a rear hatch and back seats that fold down to expand cargo space. The car offers 14.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. Fold them down, and the tC can carry up to 34.5 cubic feet of cargo.

The 2013 Scion tC is equipped with standard Bluetooth connectivity, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power windows, power door locks, and remote keyless entry. The standard stereo includes a CD/MP3 player, USB port, auxiliary input jack, and HD Radio. Additional features include front sport seats, height-adjustable driver seat, trip computer, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Optional Features
In addition to an automatic transmission, Scion tC buyers can upgrade their vehicle with fog lights, mudguards, rear lip spoiler, cargo storage solutions, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and floor mats. A premium sound system is also available, along with satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity with streaming audio, Pandora Internet radio, and social media applications. Numerous cosmetic upgrades can be added to the Scion tC, inside and out, and the TRD performance catalog includes 19-inch aluminum wheels, suspension and transmission upgrades, performance brakes, and a performance exhaust system.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Scion tC is equipped with a standard 180-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. It drives the front wheels through a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. On Series Release 8.0 models, the automatic transmission includes paddle shifters.

Every 2013 Scion model comes with 2 years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Scion tC are 23/31/26 mpg (city/highway/combined), regardless of transmission.

Safety
The 2013 Scion tC is equipped with 8 standard air bags, including knee air bags for the driver and front-seat passenger. Additional safety features include 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with ventilated front discs and brake assist, traction control, stability control, first aid kit, and a brake override system that is designed to prevent the tC from accelerating when the brake pedal is depressed.

In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests, the 2013 Scion tC earned a 5-star (out of 5) overall rating. As this overview is written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated the crashworthiness of the 2013 Scion tC. However, last year, the Institute named the structurally similar 2012 model a "Top Safety Pick."
