The Scion tC, an affordable front-wheel-drive hatchback coupe with sporty features, is offered in a single trim; however, a special limited edition is available for 2012. The Scion tC features 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, panoramic sunroof, and available dealer-installed rear spoiler and cargo cover. The Release Series 7.0 features a bright yellow exterior, black wheels, lower-body trim kit, and keyless ignition, and only 2,000 units of this model will be made.
Standard features on the 2012 Scion tC include air conditioning; cruise control; some power accessories; adjustable driver's seat and steering wheel; reclining and folding rear seats; Bluetooth connectivity; and an 8-speaker sound system. The Release Series 7.0 adds black upholstery with yellow accents. With all seats up, cargo capacity is 14.7 cubic feet; with the rear seats folded, capacity is 34.5 cubic feet.
Automatic transmission is optional. Other options are dealer-installed, including a navigation system; premium audio system with satellite radio; 7-color interior mood lighting; keyless ignition; fog lights; and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Under the Hood
The standard power plant in the 2012 Scion tC is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 180 horsepower. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, with a 6-speed automatic transmission available.
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Scion tC are 23/31/26 mpg (city/highway/combined).
Safety features on the Scion tC include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, active front head restraints, front side air bags, front knee air bags, and side curtain air bags. Rear side air bags are optional.
To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not tested the 2012 Scion tC. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Scion tC received a "Good" rating--the Institute's highest--across the board.
