Saturn's compact Vue crossover utility vehicle (CUV) has been one of the more easily recognizable shapes on the road since its introduction in 2002. Though the new Vue bears more of a resemblance to other small General Motors CUVs, it was in fact developed in conjunction with the Opel Antara, which is sold by GM's European division. Aside from a slightly different center console and radically different engine choices (the Antara offers a fuel-efficient diesel while the Vue offers gasoline powerplants), the Vue and Antara are essentially identical, and both share styling cues with other Saturn (and Opel) models.

Model Lineup
The 2008 Saturn Vue is available in three models: XE, XR and Red Line. A hybrid version, called the Green Line, will be introduced later in the model year. XE models are available with a 4-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive or a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and all-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes power windows, locks and mirrors; remote keyless entry; CD/MP3 player; XM satellite radio; OnStar; alloy wheels; cruise control; and air conditioning. An optional Preferred package adds a power-adjustable driver's seat; leather-wrapped steering wheel; heated side mirrors; and automatic climate control. The Convenience package includes rain-sensing wipers; remote starter; heated windshield washer fluid; and a universal HomeLink remote. The Premium package adds leather seats (heated in front) and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Other options include a towing package, 6-disc CD changer, roof rack rails, and a navigation system.

The Vue XR comes with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine and front- or all-wheel drive and includes the Preferred package as standard. The Vue Red Line builds on the XR with a lowered sport-tuned suspension, unique interior trim including heated leather seats with red stitching and suede inserts, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The front-wheel-drive (FWD) Vue XE is powered by a 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine that produces 169 hp at 6200 rpm and 161 lb.-ft. of torque at 5100 rpm coupeed to a 4-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive (AWD) versions of the Vue XE get a 12-valve 3.5-liter V-6 engine good for 222 hp at 5900 rpm and 219 lb.-ft. of torque at 3200 rpm; it comes coupeed to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Vue XR and Red Line get a DOHC 24-valve 3.6-liter V-6 engine that puts out 257 hp at 6500 rpm and 248 lb.-ft. of torque at 2100 rpm; it also comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. All three engines feature variable valve timing and run on regular unleaded fuel. EPA fuel economy estimates are 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway for the XE 4-cylinder; 15 mpg city/22 mpg highway for the XE V-6; 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway for the FWD XR; 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway for the FWD Red Line; and 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway for the AWD XR and Red Line.

All versions of the 2008 Saturn Vue feature front air bags, seat-mounted side air bags, two-row side curtain air bags, anti-lock brakes, and GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability control. Vues equipped with the optional trailer towing package feature Electronic Trailer Sway Control. In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2008 Saturn Vue received 4-star driver/5-star front passenger ratings in frontal crash tests and perfect 5-star ratings for both the front and rear seats in side-impact crash tests.

The 2008 Saturn Vue's towing package includes Electronic Trailer Sway Control, an extension of the stability control system. The system detects trailer sway and attempts to correct it by braking individual wheels to bring the trailer under control; it also flashes the stability control system warning light as an indicator to the driver to reduce speed. If the driver does not slow down, the system reduces engine torque to lower the vehicle's speed.
