About Ratings

The Overall Quality Rating is taken from the Initial Quality Study, which surveys original owners after 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Ratings are provided at the model level (i.e., BMW 3 Series) and include all trim levels within that model (i.e., BMW 328, 335, 335is, et al). Click here to learn more about Power Circle Ratings or visit the model page for more ratings on the model.

Why are there no ratings for certain models?

For a brand or company to be included in a study and receive a Power Circle Rating, various research criteria that must be met. Accordingly, some models with very low production or sales volumes may not be included in a particular study and, therefore, do not receive a Rating.

Why are Ratings for certain trim levels the same with a model line?

In most cases, the Rating for an entire model line encompasses all trim levels/series, body styles, and engine/transmission combinations for that particular model. For instance, Ratings for the BMW 3 Series represents the entire 3 Series family, including all model variants (i.e. 328i, 335i, 335is, M3), body styles (i.e. sedan, coupe, convertible, wagon), and engine/transmission combinations. To meet research criteria, data for all vehicles within a particular model family are aggregated when calculating the model's Rating.
