Exterior Features
Numerous aerodynamic enhancements improve fuel economy on the 2013 Ram 1500. In the regular cab 2-wheel-drive (2WD) format, the 2013 Ram 1500 benefits from a coefficient of drag that is the same as the new SRT Viper, according to the automaker.

Interior Features
Ram provides redundant controls on models equipped with Uconnect touch-screen technology to make it easy for owners to use certain systems while wearing work gloves.

Optional Features
Numerous trim levels are available on the 2013 Ram 1500 to satisfy a wide range of buyers--ST, SLT, Sport, R/T, Big Horn, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Outdoorsman.

Under the Hood
The Ram 1500 is equipped with a choice of three engines: the new 3.6-liter V-6, which generates 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque; a 4.7-liter V-8 that produces 310 horsepower and 330 lb.-ft. of torque; and the 5.7-liter V-8 that generates 395 horsepower in combination with 407 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 5.7-liter V-8 includes Fuel Saver technology that shuts half the cylinders down under low-load conditions. The maximum tow capacity of this engine is 11,500 pounds and the maximum payload capacity is 3,125 pounds.

A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard with the 4.7-liter V-8 engine. The V-6 and 5.7-liter V-8 include a new 8-speed automatic transmission with a rotary e-shift dial. Ram says the new rotary shifter makes it easier to "blind shift" when trying to rock the truck out of deep snow or mud, or while navigating tight parking situations. This also frees up space for a larger center console.

Some Ram 1500 models also include automatic stop/start technology that shuts the engine off when the truck comes to a stop in an effort to conserve fuel. On-demand 4-wheel drive (4WD) is available.

Fuel Economy
As this overview is written, official fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Ram 1500 are not available.

Safety
The Ram 1500 is equipped with 6 air bags, traction and stability control, trailer sway control, hill-start assist, and anti-lock brakes. A new Uconnect 911 emergency services feature is available, along with a reversing camera, rear park-assist sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and SmartBeam headlights.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2013 Ram 1500 receives 4 (out of 5) stars for frontal crash protection. Rollover resistance ratings are 4 stars for 2WD models and 3 stars for 4WD models.  As this overview is written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not performed crash tests on the 2013 Ram 1500.
