The Porsche Panamera is a 4-seat luxury sedan with a hatch-style trunk. A plug-in hybrid model is available for 2014, as is the Executive body style, which adds just under 6 in. to the wheelbase. Competitors of the Panamera luxury sedan include the BMW 750i and the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S. The Panamera is available in 11 trim levels: the basic Panamera, Panamera 4, S, 4S, S E-Hybrid, GTS, Turbo, 4S Executive, Turbo Executive, Turbo S, and Turbo S Executive. It comes in 11 standard and five premium colors; custom colors can also be arranged. The basic model employs rear-wheel drive (RWD); all-wheel drive (AWD) characterizes the "4" trims.

Models and Features
Standard features of the 2014 Porsche Panamera include 18-in. wheels, bi-xenon headlights that level automatically, sunroof, power rear hatch, leather-fabric upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, and an 11-speaker sound system. The S and 4S trim levels add a twin-turbocharged engine, adaptive suspension dampers, and adaptive headlights. The Panamera S E-Hybrid features adaptive air suspension and Porsche's Power Steering Plus, which offers varying levels of assistance depending on vehicle speed. The hybrid also includes various gauges and functions specific to its technology. The GTS upgrades to a V-8 engine, while the Turbo features a turbocharged V-8. Upgrades common to both of these include 19-in. wheels, simulated suede headliner, and additional LED lights. The GTS features a sport steering wheel and exhaust, and 18-way adjustable sport seats, plus distinctive cabin accents. The Turbo has slightly less sporty seats, 14-way adjustable in front and heated front and back. The Turbo's interior is entirely leather-trimmed, and includes a 14-speaker Bose sound system. The Executive body type adds adaptive air suspension as standard equipment, plus heated and ventilated front and rear seats (rear seats are also power-adjustable), 4-zone automatic climate control, soft-close doors, and various upgrades to the glass and lighting. The Turbo S trim levels feature an even more powerful and nimble engine.

Options and Packages
Many of the standard features included in the upper trim levels are available as options on the lower trims.

Under the Hood
The 2014 Porsche Panamera and Panamera 4 employ a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with automatic start/stop that produces 310 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. It operates with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. The S and 4S have a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 420 horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. of torque. The GTS has a 4.8-liter V-8 (440 horsepower, 384 lb.-ft.); the Turbo has a twin-turbocharged version of the same engine (520 horsepower, 516 lb.-ft.); and the Turbo S has an even more powerful version (570 horsepower, 553 lb.-ft.). The hybrid has a 3.0-liter V-6 internal combustion engine combined with an electric motor that together produce 416 horsepower and 435 lb.-ft. of torque. According to Porsche, the Panamera hybrid can travel purely on electric power as fast as 84 mph.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the 2014 Porsche Panamera gets 18 mpg in the city, 28 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The other models are slightly less economical, the turbo being the least fuel-efficient of all at 15/24/18 mpg. The S E-hybrid's engine is good for 23/29/25 mpg, or 50 MPGe.

Safety Ratings and Technology
Standard safety equipment on the 2014 Porsche Panamera includes anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full complement of air bags.

As of this writing, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has yet issued safety ratings for the 2014 Porsche Panamera.
